Vector was at vibes Fm
studio today, Saturday 26th October 2014 on the Saturday afternoon
show and he talked about so many thing running down to the issue with is former
label and he gave us names of the three Nigerian rap artiste he is feeling right
now.
Read
the interview below:
How are you feeling with
your new team now, and how do you feel making music again?
Vector: “there is no feeling in the world that can measure with the feeling of
doing what you want to do and how you want to do it (it like basically when you
are your own boss), and it feels good to be back”
You’ve got a mix tape out?
Vector: Yes!
At what point did you decide
that the best way for me to announce my retune was to push out a whole body of
work.
Vector: to be honest, I didn’t plan for this to be as a retune with the
mixtape, (you have to be a man of your word especially if you be man),
“laughing” it just happened that the A7 must drop, That why i put out a
mixtape.
You made a good point. What
about when people have money and they don’t have the opportunity?
Vector: This is no disrespect, but it goes out to a lot of young upcoming
artiste as well… like when it just money and no … and flea … be careful what
you want because when it just money and the person just having flea for music
not necessarily understanding your brand of music or how to fuse in your brand
of music to the society, will most likely have a problem.
Is that common in the
industry right now?
Vector: I wouldn’t say cause where am
coming form, at this point I am very much comfortable with it when dropping
popular and dropping a video with it. The idea of the video as well is because
I don’t want to wear plenty chain that is not mine or rolex that I cant afford,
but I act like its real…. Laughing.. all that type of things, cause I want the
video to be real and be me. To be honest, I’ll have to give shout out to the
likes of Reminisce, Olamide that kept on to their style of music until people
understood them.
Tell us a little more about
your A7 project.
Vector: I wanted an intro that was basically hardcore and has nothing to do
with anybody’s opinion plus, you have grown, you put that into it. Where is
Vector was like a respond. Celestial body… in a funny way, I grow up in a white
garment church and I have always said to my myself “how would it be if I like have a passion
with any of the tracks we had in our
Cele church and hip hop which gave birth to celestial body” celestial body are
like stars that are out of this world and so when rappers says “am out of this
world I am a celestial body”, and
really I am.. laughing… show down is hmm… rest in peace H-Code like he made
that beat and when I heard it I was like
I have to do a flee to this no joking “solder go solder come I never see the time
when solder run” singing… and we had that dumping that’s it.
Oh Iceberg, I heard a lot
about him, tell me about him, was up with that man cause I heard he’s a little
controversial
Vector: I don’t know about controversy cause
game recognize game I respect him that’s all, so I don’t know that side
when people are saying he’s controversial cause to me he is real. He was born
on the 7th of August as well, so I didn’t want him on a track where
people will be like oh! You know how things in Naija can be, they are trying to
take shot at this guy.,.. I wanted music that was growing, that was real, not
all that am a bad guy I can kill all of you thing.
What’s the meaning of A7
Vector: August
7
I will like to know what you
meant by Mary Jane on that track, where you talked about Mary Jane cause I and
my friend argued about it like crazy.
Vector: hmmm… I will let you find out, well that’s the beauty of making or
trying to be intelligent with the lyric, first of all NBC can hold you…
laughing… it just shows that we think, it not just shack your body all the
time, it like some time you just want to play music…. You play music that makes
you think… any thing you think Mary Jane is all about I guess that’s what it
is.
What are you dropping for us
this year?
Vector: I don’t
want to drop an album this year A7 is already doing the work… I say this
everywhere, I had that conversation with 2face and he was like “ men Vector,
the completion nor be who drop music pass” we can’t just wake up everyday and
before you really enjoy the benefit of that one track another one is out and
unfortunately for some artiste, oh they want to dance when them never even
dance the dance when day ground finish you don drop another one, by doing so
you born out, nobody is really going to be hot for ever so why don’t you just
take time and drop music.
Do you think that, that’s
the problem we are facing?
Vector: Somebody said another thing that was like “see as people just day drop
knowledge oh” the guy said “if we nor day careful, that thing that happened to
Nollywood that everybody was just ban,
like you cant be on it too much, you start to look like a static…. Its like
that moment when you put on your TV this guy is there like the number of your
TV channels… I said Akin and Powpow born out cause they where always, always,
on like a billion and one movies, this guys are really funny, am thinking who
is scripting this? Don’t you guys want to chill a little bit… no disrespect oh
does guys are great arts any day they make you laugh.. that why people kinda
see people like Genevieve in the light cause you don’t see her everyday people
don’t see Omotola on TV every time. I just think that if we are not careful
they way the whole industry… the way he go be ehn… cause right now the whole
radio sounds like Alaba mix tape… I am guilty of that too oh.
You just made a mention of
live band tell us do you play on live band?
Vector: Yes! I played on live band for three years myself and General Pipe…
that’s why I can stand in front of five thousand people and start a freestyle,
it what I was born with, it what I was born into, may be I am not born with it
but its something that I got used to.
What do you think about
international arts doing live band and our artistes uses Dj’s
Vector: I don’t really mess around with too many people in the industry, but
because I nor they go out too much.. and that gives me a lot of time to think.
You see the likes of Jay’Z, Rihanna with talent and you’re like these people
are Americans, we are in Nigeria .
See, Lagos is small, Benin city is a great city, what happens to
coming here and mess with the likes of Malakie, what happens to going to the
East and mess with dudes like Sani’danger .
What about local international collaboration?
Vector: We gat these on.. I mean when we’re ready to drop the track you go hear
am, I like to work with talent over just fame… right now you just get to find
out, I have talked to a lot of people, I guess I will get that worked on.
Who are the guys you’re
feeling in the industry, any Nigeria
rap artiste you are feeling right now, give us your top five list.
Vector: I don’t have a top five list, everybody has been dropping list and I am
like the list of my problem is the list now but ehmm… I mean everybody is
getting the ground up that’s impressive… I appreciate hard work like Olamide he
is good Phyno is killing it Erriga is oh the bustard “laughing” a lot of people
are doing great now sha I mean that just all the top of my head now.
Was it your inspiration that
kept you going after the legal issue?
Vector: Think the best place in my life is taking inspiration where there’s no
inspiration, I learn patience thru out that time and I never let my self been
pull down because of that situation.
When are you going to do
something with Jay”Z?
Vector: “laughing” I hope you know Jay’Z is like the number one guy, yea but is
like I have always believe that any moment I see Jay’Z one on one I will wow!
Him so it will work. Na step by step…. I can’t brag…
Any last word before you go?
Vector: if its not time no matter how hard you try it will not happen so
basically just they do your thing one day something will happen and if it
doesn’t happen it wasn’t meant to be, if it’s meant to be bros nor worry,
somebody heard me rapping somewhere, on show I think it was ill bliss that
invited me long ago and I think the line
that interest the first investor was a line in my rap that says “it my time,
its your watch” in my head I think that’s the deal that sky rocket it means
time must happen. Dad said “it is best for you to grow and not blow”.
Thanks for coming
Vector: you are welcome.
