Chris Brown was the biggest winner at the 2014 Soul Train Awards, which aired on BET on Sunday night, November 30. The R&B superstar, who led this year’s nominations with seven, took home three awards including Best Hip-Hop Song of the Year, Best DancePerformance and Best Collaboration all for the Lil Wayne and Tyga-assisted “Loyal”.
Pharrell Williams and Beyonce Knowles were other names grabbing multiple awards. The former’s “Happy” was named Song of the Year after edging out competitors like John Legend’s “All of Me”, Beyonce’s “Drunk in Love” and Drake’s “Hold On, We’re Going Home”. The Grammy Award-winning producer’s smashing hit also came out as the winner in the Video of the Year category.
Bey, meanwhile, beat the likes of Jennifer Hudson, Ledisi, Marsha Ambrosius, Jhene Aiko and Janelle Monae for the Best R&B/Soul Female Artist title. She additionally nabbed the Album of the Year award for her 2013 self-titled effort.
Other winners included Nico & Vinz (Best New Artist), Trey Songz (Best R&B/Soul Male Artist), Legend (Record of the Year for “All of Me”) and Kool & the Gang which was honored with Lifetime Achievement award.

  • Record of the Year (The Ashford and Simpson Songwriter’s Award): John Legend (Toby Gad, John Stephens, Dave Tozer) – “All of Me”
  • Best Dance Performance: Chris Brown featuring Lil Wayne & Tyga – “Loyal”
  • Best Collaboration: Chris Brown featuring Lil Wayne & Tyga – “Loyal”
  • Video of the Year: Pharrell Williams (We are from L.A.) – “Happy”
  • Best Traditional Jazz Performance: Wynton Marsalis – “Flee as A Bird to the Mountain (Live)”
  • Best Contemporary Jazz Performance: Liv Warfield – “Stay”/”Soul Lifted”
  • Best Independent R&B/Soul Performance: Joe featuring Kelly Rowland – “Love & Sex Pt. 2″
